We were in the market for a new knife to keep on our harness that could handle being dragged through a canyon while exploring some tight slots. There are many great knives for climbing that are incredibly lightweight and beautifully made, but we needed something that was incredibly tough.

Keeping track of time, elements, directions and altitude can play a important role in a successful adventure. Our personal fave this year is the Casio Pathfinder that has great durability, lasting power, and a slick user interface.

Spending time with the WAE (Wireless Audio Experience) Outdoor BTP04 has been fantastic – it delivers great sounding music and clear audio content while doing a number of activities in various places. While bluetooth speakers are old news, outdoor rugged speakers are making their way into the market place in a big way. These are allowing us to bring music deep into the backcountry, at the local wall, car camping, or even around the house and yard.

What a FANTASTIC knife! I had been seeing these brightly colored knives here and there but never really stopped and paid attention, that was my bad. Here I was walking past a truly great piece of engineering between Light my Fire and Mora of Sweden. The Swedish FireKnife is easy to clean, light and durable this is with me every trip. Eventually I see myself with a slew of these knives for different load outs, not to mention all the ad on’s you can get offered by Light my Fire.

I love my little snow peak lantern, simplicity in design and function make it one of my all time favorites in form and function. The Mini Hozuki Lantern is small but powerful with a slew of capabilities makes this a must for any camp or backpack set up. Even just as a back up in a day pack, it has the the ability to clip onto your gear via the magnet clasp system. This little LED lantern produces 60 lumens allowing for 40-70 hrs of run time and weighing in at 3.1 oz. It’s pretty waterproof in some light rain and the silicone rubber lantern shade can be removed for cleaning purposes.

I had the wonderful opportunity to see the Xplorer from La Sportiva before it came out while I was at  Outdoor Retailer. At that time I was very impressed by the shoe and excited for it’s release, and my first chance to try the shoe out came during a 3 day canyoning course with Zion Mountain School.

Very exciting to now have our canyoning rope dialed in. We were able to get two coils of the Imlay rope from our friends at Zion Mountain School. This is a 8.3 Canyon Fire static rope that a Southern Utah company has developed just for canyoning. They have a large selection of bags and other items that when available sell out in days, if not hours. They make a 8, 8.3, 9.2 rope and a 6mm pull cord.
